2.1.1 - Program Assurance

2.1.1-6 Level 2 Tasks

Tasks Applicable Mission Phases Description SFWC Artifacts References
2.1.1-6-1 Ensure technical assessment activities are planned and executed to measure technical progress and the effectiveness of plans and requirements Phase A | Phase B | Phase C | Ensure technology readiness assessments(TRA) are performed to assess the maturity of technologies used in or proposed for the system. Ensure a TRA Plan and schedule is established. Technology readiness assessments are required at major acquisition milestones - Milestones B and C. DOD 5000.2-R suggests, but does not mandate, the utilization of TRLs in execution of the TRA. Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) are defined in DOD 5000.2-R NA Technology Readiness Assessment (TRA); Integrated Master Plan (IMP) DOD 5000.1 DoDD 5000.1, The Defense Acquisition System, 23 October 2000 (Incorporating Change 1, January 4, 2001; DoDI 5000.2, Operation of the Defense Acquisition System, (Including Change 1), 4 January 2001
2.1.1-6-2 Ensure evidence of technology maturity is demonstrated in relevant environment Phase A | Phase B | Phase C | Ensure appropriate data and information are provided to assess whether the technologies of the program have been demonstrated in a relevant environment. Information should include component or subsystem test descriptions, environments, and results in the context of the system's functional needs in order to perform assessment of technology maturity as need. Any other analyses and information necessary to assess and rationalize the maturity of the technologies should also be included. NA Technology Readiness Assessment (TRA); Integrated Master Plan (IMP) DOD, Technology Readiness Assessment Guide, April 2011
2.1.1-6-3 Ensure all critical technologies are identified Phase A | Phase B | Phase C | A technology is critical if the system being acquired depends on it to meet the system operational requirements (including key performance parameters and cost) in development, production, and operation and if the technology or it application is either new or novel. NA Technology Readiness Assessment (TRA); System/Segment Architecture Description DOD 5000.1 DoDD 5000.1, The Defense Acquisition System, 23 October 2000 (Incorporating Change 1, January 4, 2001; DoDI 5000.2, Operation of the Defense Acquisition System, (Including Change 1), 4 January 2001.
2.1.1-6-4 Ensure interface requirements address technical maturity levels for design feasibility Phase A | Phase B | Phase C | Ensure all interface standards and interface technology to include technical maturity levels are assessed and factored into the development of the interface requirements for a feasible design NA Technology Readiness Assessment (TRA); Inter-Segment ICDs; Intra-Segment ICDs Key Questions for Acquisition Success, 25 July 2011, MITRE/Aerospace
