2.3.5 - Mechanical Design Integration

2.3.5-1 Level 2 Tasks

Tasks Applicable Mission Phases Description SFWC Artifacts References
2.3.5-1-1 Ensure that Mechanical Design Integration (MDI) related requirements have been established and flowed down Phase A | Phase B | Ensure major requirements and interfaces requirements are established and documented. This includes mission parameters, Payload-to-SV Interface Control Documents (ICD), SV-to-LV ICD, payload pointing requirements, ground station contact locations, mass properties, etc. Each may influence the Mechanical Design and layout of the satellite. Many MDI related requirements will commonly be documented in ICDs, and may not surface as top-level system requirements. Also, many MDI considerations are documented in contractor Command Media, and Best-Practices and may not be presented in a formal SRR setting. NA Intra-Segment ICDs; System/Segment Specification (SSS); Inter-Segment ICDs TOR-2004(3909)-3360, Systems Engineer's Major Reviews for National Security Space System Programs
2.3.5-1-2 Ensure that all Interface Control Documents (ICD) include Mechanical Design Integration constraints Phase A | Phase B | Phase C | Ensure the ICD between all major components is sufficiently detailed to document the agreed upon interaction between components. While this includes electrical interfaces, environments, etc., of concern here is the document agreement between all parties involved regarding the mechanical description of each component. Ensure all MDI requirements are defined and all applicable interface control documents are prepared prior to PDR. Ensure all changes post PDR are defined and documented prior to CDR. Ensure release date is documented NA NA TOR-2004(3909)-3360, Systems Engineer's Major Reviews for National Security Space System Programs
2.3.5-1-3 Ensure that configuration control is maintained on the Mechanical Configuration Phase A | Phase B | Phase C | Ensure a process of controls exists to maintain known configuration, once the baseline configuration has been established, and that any revisions are documented and tracked. NA Configuration Management/Audit Processes and Products TOR-2004(3909)-3360, Systems Engineer's Major Reviews for National Security Space System Programs
2.3.5-1-4 Ensure there is a closing plan for all MDI TBDs and TBRs requirements Phase A | Phase B | Phase C | Ensure that a closure plan for any open Mechanical Design Integration items is provided by PDR NA Design Review Data Package TOR-2004(3909)-3360, Systems Engineer's Major Reviews for National Security Space System Programs
