2.3.9 - System Survivability

2.3.9-2 Level 2 Tasks

Tasks Applicable Mission Phases Description SFWC Artifacts References
2.3.9-2-1 Ensure a survivability specification defines the survivability requirements allocations to all levels Phase 0 | Phase A | Phase B | Phase C | Ensure survivability requirements are flowed down to each subsystem, component box and software specification. Ensure design guidance for implementing hardening features is flowed to the responsible production staff. The survivability engineers work with the design engineers to ensure that the hardening requirements and survivability features are correctly implemented. Together the design, survivability and production personnel ensure that the survivability features and the primary mission functional features are compatible. 2.3.9-2-2 Ensure that survivability design requirements features are considered for the entire life cycle Phase 0 | Phase A | Phase B | Phase C | PLACEHOLDER NA NA TOR-2008(8583)-8164 REV A, Survivability Program Management for Space
2.3.9-2-3 Ensure performance rather than hardware requirements are completely specified Phase 0 | Phase A | Phase B | Phase C | Unless there is a compelling reason for not doing so, allow the contractor to determine the design features that ensure meeting related performance requirements. If a requirement contains a design solution, the contractor may not be responsible for failure to meet related performance requirements. 2.3.9-2-4 Ensure that performance requirements, user interfaces and mission outputs are coordinated with end users Phase 0 | Phase A | Phase B | Phase C | In the past both mission planners and mission users have had difficulty defining and coordinating mission needs. Still, this is an essential part of mission success. It requires formal meetings between planners and users. This also can help avoid the omissions that in the past have arisen because those who write the request for proposal are not the people who oversee the contract. Further the contractor personnel who write the proposal are often not the people who perform on the contract. NA NA TOR-2006(8506)-4494, Space Vehicle Systems Engineering Handbook
2.3.9-2-5 Ensure appropriate flow down of survivability requirements to associate contractors and subcontractors Phase 0 | Phase A | Phase B | Phase C | Phase D1 | Ensure the prime contractor requires the major subcontractors and or associate contractors to establish a survivability program with appropriate deliverable documentation.
