4.4.4.7-5 Level 2 Tasks

Tasks Applicable Mission Phases Description SFWC Artifacts References
4.4.4.7-5-1 Ensure qualification test plans are assessed Phase B | Phase C | Ensure tests are performed to demonstrate that the design of the device or system meets the specified requirements and environmental test levels and durations are established to provide margin over actual flight levels and durations. Qualification test matrices should be included as part of the test plan. Criteria outlined in the referenced standard are a composite of those verified by previous use in space and launch vehicle applications. Described are essential qualification criteria to ensure all components and systems have passed the margin and qualification tests. Storage, packaging, handling and transportation environments should either be included in qualification testing or controlled to within the max predicted levels used to determine qualification requirements. NA NA AIAA S-113-2005, Criteria for Explosive Systems and Devices on Space and Launch Vehicles
4.4.4.7-5-2 Ensure performance margin test plans are complete Phase B | Phase C | Ensure energy transfer performance margins are conducted on all elements where transfer across a discontinuity or gap is required. Margins for severing and penetrating devices should be demonstrated using nominal charges. Details of test requirements are found in in the referenced specification. Demonstrations of barrier performance and barrier position indicators should be conducted by tests or analyses or both. Performance margin verification methods for explosively actuated devises are detailed in the referenced specification. NA NA AIAA S-113-2005, Criteria for Explosive Systems and Devices on Space and Launch Vehicles
4.4.4.7-5-3 Ensure lot acceptance test plans are complete Phase B | Phase C | Ensure acceptance testing is performed on each production lot and, along with acceptable manufacturing records and is the basis for the lot acceptance. Acceptance testing consists of non-destructive and destructive tests. NA NA AIAA S-113-2005, Criteria for Explosive Systems and Devices on Space and Launch Vehicles
4.4.4.7-5-4 Ensure service life extension test plan is complete Phase C | Service life for a lot may be extended by performance of either of two types of service life extension tests and/or by trend life analysis as described in AIAA-2005-4039. Service life extension test matrices are detailed in AIAA S-113-2005 NA NA AIAA S-113-2005, Criteria for Explosive Systems and Devices on Space and Launch Vehicles; AIAA-2005-4039.
4.4.4.7-5-5 Ensure shock, vibration, and thermal environments tests envelope mission conditions Phase C | Phase D1 | Vibration and shock testing methods are detailed in test matrices in AIAA S-113-2005. Ensure that the testing envelopes the mission conditions. NA NA AIAA S-113-2005, Criteria for Explosive Systems and Devices on Space and Launch Vehicles
4.4.4.7-5-6 Ensure margin verification includes statistical all-fire, initiation system for first element, booster charges, detonation transfer, and specialized tests for each type of separation component Phase C | Phase D1 | Ensure the specialized separation components include Cartridge Actuated Devices (CAD), severing and penetrating devices, expanding tube separation systems, fracturing devices, and linear thrusting joints. Ensure Planning is complete by CDR.
