4.5.7 - Hosted Payload

4.5.7-1 Level 2 Tasks

Tasks Applicable Mission Phases Description SFWC Artifacts References
4.5.7-1-1 Ensure mission compliance requirements are applied and verified Phase A | Phase B | Phase C | Ensure appropriate requirements from applicable specifications and standards are defined and flowed to the unit level, as applicable. Requirements imposed on secondary payloads are dependent on the project leader. Ensure requirements from launch vehicle mission integrator for launch loads without harming the other payloads or the launch vehicle, and fairing requirements for cleanliness and electromagnetic environment are addressed. Ensure effective communication with compliance organizations is scheduled early and completed. NA NA Space Vehicle Systems Engineering Handbook, TOR-2006(8506)-4494, Mission Assurance Guide, TOR-2007(8546)-6018, Rev B
4.5.7-1-2 Ensure software payload software attributes are consistent and are verified Phase A | Phase B | Phase C | Ensure all software processes run off a single time source to assure timing signals and interrupts are synchronized to each other. Long duration testing in all operating and failure modes is essential to verify software functionality and stability. 4.5.7-1-3 Ensure adequate early assembly activity to reduce risk of payload integration Phase B | Phase C | Phase D1 | Ensure pathfinder activities are adequate to reduce risk for mechanical integration of each payload into the space vehicle. Ensure inclusion of provisions to permit alignment and adjustment of critical tolerances with respect to payload elements, where appropriate. Ensure fit checks and fit check models are complete to assure risk reduction factors associated with a successful fit check. Ensure facility RF characterization, attenuation, and monitoring is conducted through integration , test, and launch preparations. Ensure payload processing facility is secured in writing early, read the fine print, and have a backup plan. NA NA Space Vehicle Systems Engineering Handbook, TOR-2006(8506)-4494, Mission Assurance Guide, TOR-2007(8546)-6018, Rev B
4.5.7-1-4 Ensure evaluation of required orbital tests to initialize the payload's functionality Phase A | Phase B | Phase C | Phase D1 | Ensure the space vehicle system test program testing in light of orbital testing. Ensure payload's functionality is tested and meets established performance baseline. Ensure periodic calibration of the payload to update functional/performance baselines is completed considering space vehicle system test program. Use a hot bench of flatsat for operations testing; run the flight software in operations testing and rehearsals. NA NA Space Vehicle Systems Engineering Handbook, TOR-2006(8506)-4494, Mission Assurance Guide, TOR-2007(8546)-6018, Rev B
4.5.7-1-5 Ensure adherence to and verification of the payload special items and handling plan during space vehicle integration Phase C | Phase D1 | Ensure that all payload special test equipment and ground support equipment not being delivered to orbit has been identified as "remove before flight". Ensure that all moving mechanisms/deployable are correctly reset/re-installed after last "first motion" test. Ensure that all "install-before-flight items" have been correctly installed on all payloads and on the space vehicles with access to the payloads. Ensure that all payload hardware not installed on each payload at the time of delivery to the space vehicle factory is itemized. Ensure that unobstructed access is available to install those late items. Ensure that a "safe to mate" check is performed before integrating each payload onto the space Vehicle. Ensure there is a remove-before-flight list and ensure there is a positive artifact that shows the item was truly removed. 4.5.7-1-6 Ensure all payload configuration items, interfaces and test equipment are configuration controlled Phase B | Phase C | Phase D1 | Maintain configuration control of test procedures, ensure critical operations have procedural safeguards. Ensure procedures have appropriate safeguards for critical and hazardous operations. Ensure all activities following space vehicle to launch vehicle mate are coordinated to assure awareness of current configuration, and the potential interaction between "independent" activities. NA NA Space Vehicle Systems Engineering Handbook, TOR-2006(8506)-4494, Mission Assurance Guide, TOR-2007(8546)-6018, Rev B
4.5.7-1-7 Ensure operations procedures are controlled, tested and tracked Phase C | Phase D1 | Ensure all procedures are tested against the vehicle or the hot bench at some point, and testing is tracked by appropriate software version number. Ensure all changes are re-tested under operational conditions to meet procedures.
