4.9 - Space Vehicle Storage

4.9-2 Level 2 Tasks

Tasks Applicable Mission Phases Description SFWC Artifacts References
4.9-2-1 Ensure the contractor develops and follows a storage implementation plan Phase B | Phase C | Phase D1 | Ensure stored SVs, busses, and payloads have a regular testing cycle, and that the cycle time is based on engineering analyses. Ensure the contractor plans for and conducts regular reviews of SVs in storage, as well as reviews of any spare assemblies, batteries and other parts in storage or used to maintain/test hardware in storage. Ensure facility space is identified and adequate for containers, ground support/test equipment and potential repair/replace actions. 4.9-2-2 Ensure storage plans include short-term, long-term, and contingency plans for non-nominal cases Phase B | Phase C | Phase D1 | Ensure provisions are made for long-term storage. Ensure contingency plans include storage with fuel/defueling, contamination tests while in storage, length of time allowed in temporary storage with fuel (if at all), ordnance, ground support equipment, payloads, and batteries. SFWC 4.13 NA TOR-2016-00732, Prelaunch Storage of Satellites and Launch Vehicles - 2015 Update
4.9-2-3 Ensure the contractor develops and maintains a list of storage concerns Phase B | Phase C | Phase D1 | Ensure development and assessment of known degradation expectations. Ensure plans are in place to compare expectations against test results. Examples include moving mechanical assemblies, aging sensitivity of lubricating materials, optical thin-film coating, metal mirror coatings, semiconductor coatings, wire coatings, and various insulations.
